Network Rail tell us that they are to remove some of the old bridges near to Castlefield Basin, Manchester in August as part of the controversial Ordsall Chord rail link. This is very near to Castlefield Basin.

They say that they are now preparing to remove the girder metal that is currently concealing Stephenson’s bridge, and are preparing the partial removal of the Zig Zag arches. These works are part of the Ordsall Chord project and are part of our Railway Upgrade Plan to provide a better railway in Britain.
These works are due to take place on:
Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st July 8am-4pm
Monday 1st August- Friday 5th August 8am-8pm
Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th August 8am-4pm
Monday 8th August- Friday 12th August 8am-8pm
