It’s time to dust off the barbeque and so the Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) has a simple message, ‘We love barbecues, but never on a boat – use them ashore, enjoy them safely and avoid the twin risks of fire and carbon monoxide poisoning.
Use Portable Gas Camping Equipment Ashore, NOT Aboard!!
Boat owners are being reminded by the Boat Safety Scheme of the risk from using portable gas camping stoves, lamps and heaters on board boats because of the danger from explosion, fire and carbon monoxide poisoning.
BSS Checks Amended to accept new EU Gas Hose Standard
The BSS checks have changed with immediate effect as the BSS requirements now recognise two new classes of hose following the recent publication of a new European LPG hose standard.
CRT wants input on Pawl Catch Design
CRT is meeting with boaters to discuss new designs for pawl catches and to understand boaters’ thoughts. This is a national project to make locks safer for boaters.
CRT seeks new members for its Council
The Canal & River Trust is calling on people to stand for election to the charity’s governing Council, with nominations opening on 11 September, before voting in November.
CRT Report on Directly Managed Moorings Sales Consultation
CRT has published its report on the above consultation, which received 72 written responses including NABO’s. The responses have been used to revise and amend the proposals where CRT felt this was justified. Key CRT decisions are:

CRT’s Mark Stephens receives John Gould Award
At today’s AGM of the K&A Canal Trust, Mark Stephens, until recently CRT’s K&A Waterways Manager, was awarded the prestigious John Gould Award for 2014 by KACT’s President, David Bruce.
